Kia Taqseem-e-Hind ki Bunyaad Ghair Mazhabi hai?

“Kia Taqseem-e-Hind ki Bunyaad Ghair Mazhabi hai?” is a wonderful writing on the issue. The writer very rightly highlighted the contradiction in the view of those who claim that the partition of India was not occurred due to religion. They maintain that the slogan “Pakistan ka Matlab kia, Laa Ilaha Illallah” was tolerated due to political reasons, otherwise League and Jannah were against the religious identity of Pakistan. If one insists on such a notion, then it means that League and Jinnah were deceiving millions of the Muslims of India. It means they were hypocrites.

Enlightenment, Secularism and Islam

Ten Commandments of Quran

These Then Commandments are derived from verse 22-39 of Surah Bani Israel ( Sura Isra). Following is a translation of these verses:
Serve no other god except God, lest [on the Day of Judgement] you are left blameworthy and disgraceful. And [remember that] your Lord has enjoined you to worship none but Him, and to treat well your parents. If either or both of them attain old age in your life, show them no sign of impatience, nor scold them while answering; but speak to them with good etiquette and treat them with humility and tenderness and say: “Lord, be merciful to them the way they nursed me in childhood.” Your Lord fully knows what is in your hearts; if you remain obedient [to them, then you should know that] He forgives those who turn to Him. And give to the near of kin their due, and also the destitute and to the traveller. Do not squander your wealth wastefully, for the wasteful are Satan’s brothers; and Satan is ever-ungrateful to his Lord. And if you have to disregard [those in need] because you are seeking your Lord’s bounty of which you are waiting, then at least speak to them affectionately. And do not be miserly or prodigal [that as a result of it] you should either earn reproach or be reduced to indigence. Indeed your Lord gives abundantly to whom He pleases and sparingly to whom He pleases. He is aware of His servants and is observing them. And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them also and for you because killing them is a heinous crime.
And do not even go near adultery because it is blatant lewdness and a very evil path. And do not kill any man whose life has been held sacred by God, except for a just cause and [remember that] if a man is slain unjustly, We have given his heir the authority. Then he should also not exceed limits in his revenge because he has been helped. And do not approach the wealth of orphans except in a just manner, until they reach maturity. And keep your promises because you shall be held accountable for promises. Give full measure, when you measure, and weigh with correct scales. This is better and fairer as far as the consequences are concerned. And do not go after what you know not because eyes, ears, and heart – all of them shall be questioned. And do not walk conceitedly on the earth because neither can you split the earth, nor can you rival the mountains in stature. The evil of each of these to your Lord is very displeasing.
This is the wisdom which your Lord has revealed to you. [Hold on steadfastly to it] and [in the end, listen once again:] serve no other deity besides God, lest [as a result] you should be cast into Hell condemned and rejected.

Followers of Satan

In the holy month of Ramazan, Satan is confined. But what about the followers of Satan?
Unfortunately they are gathered in Majid-e-Nabwi and Masjid-e-Haram in this holy month. A large number of smugglers, cheats, frauds, black marketeers, tax evaders, corrupts, vandals, rascals and those with inverted ethics reach Mecca and Medina to perform Umra and keep fasts and to carryout I’tikaaf. When they come back, their faces glow with the light of faith and they tell the stories that how God kept showering His Grace on them. As a matter of fact Pharaoh, Nimrud, Abu Jahl, Abu Lahab etc. were stupid people of extremely low intelligence. In order to live the life of malice, they invited God’s Wrath. But the heirs of Abu Jahl and Abu Lahab are fortunate enough, as they have devised a way to follow the footsteps of Satan on one hand and to gratify God on the other.
I cannot help quoting these words of Jesus Christ, which are reported in the Bible[a]:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore you shall receive the greater damnation.”
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.”
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like to white washed sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.”

Congratulations Hayrunisa Gul

I congratulate Hayrunisa Gul on being the first lady, wearing scarf, in the President House of Turkey.
I wish the lady in the President House of Pakistan to be in the similar dress, representing Muslim culture. It was so before October 12, 1999. I think it will happen again after September 10, 2007.

Congratulations! Abdullah Gul

Abdullah Gul has taken oath as the 11th President of Republic of Turkey. He belongs to the Justice and Development Party. He is the first President of Turkey who is a practicing Muslim. He is the first President of Turkey whose wife, Hayrunisa Gul, wears scarf. Turkish army was against him, but even then Gul succeeded.
I congratulate all Turkish brothers and all the Muslims of the world on this great success.

Tancredo Talks About Bombing Mecca and Medina

In a radio talk show American Congressman Tom Tancredo[1], while responding to a question of host said, “Well, what if you said something like — if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites.”

“You're talking about bombing Mecca,” the host asked.

“Yeah,” Tancredo responded.

What Tancredo uttered reminded me of a prophesy regarding the "end of days" in Bible’s book of Revelation:

“And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog[2], to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the cantonment of holies (Medina[3]) about, and the beloved city (Mecca[4]): and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.[5] (Chapter 20: Verses 7-9)

In the light of this prophesy, one is compelled to think whether Tom Tancredo is the Promised Satan of the Book of Revelation of Bible?

Role Model

President of Pakistan Gen. Musharraf has declared that Turkey’s founding father Kemal Atatürk was his role model[1]. Gen. Musharraf has lived in Turkey for many years. It cannot be considered that he has some sort of misconceptions about Kemal Atatürk.

As we consider our leaders, specially our President who is the symbol of federation, to be our role models, so we must consider and read the ideas and thoughts of Kemal Atatürk carefully and should give them fair attention. Here is a brief account of some of the achievements and ideas of Kemal Atatürk:

Achievements

  • During World War I, in April 1915, before encountering Australian and New Zealand force, as a commander of his troops, Kemal told them, “I don’t order you to fight, I order you to die. In the time it takes us to die, other troops and commanders can come and take our places.” I wish that in 1971 Lieutenant General Amir Abdullah Niazi had the same courage and commitment.
  • Mustafa Kemal resigned from the Ottoman Army on July 8. Then he appealed for a national election to establish a new Parliament. His appeal for an election became successful.
  • He fought against France, Greece and Armenia and was successful.
  • In 1923 under his leadership, independence of Turkey was declared.
  • He separated government and religion. He closed the Islamic courts. He replaced Shariah with secular law based on Swiss Civil Code model.
  • In 1924 the parliament transferred the powers of Caliph into itself. Kemal declared, “the religion of Islam will be elevated if it will cease to be a political instrument, as had been the case in the past”.
  • In 1924 the Caliphate was abolished.
  • He established a railway network in a very short time.
  • He changed Arabic script of Turkey with Italian script. It greatly contributed in breaking relationship of the new generations with religion, traditions and past.
  • He changed traditional education of Madrassa with secular education.
  • He struggled to enhance and westernise the status of women.
  • Opposing the directives of Islam he encouraged the use of alcohol and established state owned alcoholic industry. He used raki, a local alcoholic drink, and enjoyed in large quantities.
  • He banned the traditional dress of Turkey and encouraged the Western dress.
  • He discouraged veil and Hijab for women.

Ideas[2]

  • The society that makes its daily decisions based on religion, tradition and superstition is not fit for survival in the modern world, because in modern world people make decisions rationally. It seems that according to Kemal being religious means being irrational.
  • According to him truest guide in life is not God and his Prophet (PBUH), but science.
  • According to the experts of Kemalism (philosophy and ideas of Kemal Atatürk), Kemal Atatürk classified teachings of Quran into four categories: 1) Belief in Supreme Being call God or Allah. 2) History of the creation of the world. 3) Rules of individual human beings, their social behavior and morality. 4) Rules of personal hygiene.

Kemal was not the critic of only the 1st aspect. He was great opponent and critic of all other three aspects of the teachings of Quran. Experts on Kemalism not only criticize Islamic injunctions such as Tyammum, but also make fun of such injunctions, in the light of the thoughts of Kemal.
  • Kemalists present Kemalism as something, which considers Islam against rationality, democracy and human rights. Kemal Atatürk was in favor of selecting some parts of Shariah while rejecting others.
  • According to his ideas, first priority was nation’s survival in the modern world.
  • According to Kemalism, Islam is not a reality in the sense that it is a religion revealed by God. It is just a way to find happiness in your life.

The Myth of Ulema (1)

Some semi-literate politicians, servants-turned-dictators and the so-called intellectuals of Pakistan are continuously giving the impression in their rhetoric and writings that all the Ulema and only the Ulema opposed Pakistan movement and the political struggle of Quaid-e-Azam and Muslim League. The fact is quite the contrary. Many intelligent and mature people opposed the Pakistan movement, as many intelligent and mature people favored it. So like the Ulema, other Muslims were also divided into two factions: pro-Pakistan movement and anti-Pakistan movement. They also included secular, enlightened and moderates.
Decades of 1930 and 1940 presented a serious challenge for the Muslims of India. The question about their future arose: how their rights and interests are best secured in the future? Two solutions were proposed. First that India should be divided into two parts: Muslim India (later named Pakistan) and Hindu India. The other solution was that the Muslims should try to secure their rights and interests in united India. Adherents of both ideas had their own rationales. It is only a matter of academic interest to discuss whose point of view proved to be correct in the light of history. But people belonging to both the factions are our elders and we must respect them greatly, in spite of our political differences with them. Respecting those who have different political views than ours is the only way to propagate tolerance, open-mindedness, and patience. Rhetoric of dictators can never develop these values. Should our leaders themselves adopt these values, only then the masses will adopt them.
The notion that all the Ulema and only the Ulema, opposed Pakistan movement is actually put forward due to an intentional or unintentional conspiracy against Islam. The best way to produce distance between young generation and Islam is by propagating the idea that the Ulema are undependable, wrong and guilty. Once someone is successful in brain washing the youth with this idea, Islam will cease to have any effect in the lives of Muslims in a few years.
In the following part of this blog, I will show by giving a list of those Muslims of pre-partition India, who were not from amongst the Ulema but were still strong opponents of Pakistan movement. It will prove that the notion that only the Ulema opposed Pakistan movement is a myth. This myth was concocted by mischievous minds and is creating a wrong concept of our history in the minds of Pakistanis.
· Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew
A great patriot, freedom fighter and Muslim Indian Nationalist. He rose to the position of President of All India Congress’ Punjab unit. He also rose to the position of secretary general of All India Congress. He obtained a B.A. from Cambridge University, and a Ph.D. from a German university. Tragedy of Jallianwala Bagh is very important in the political history of subcontinent. Public meeting in Jallianwala Bagh was being held to protest against the arrest of Gandhi, Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Kitchlew.
He was a strong opponent of Pakistan movement. He opposed the acceptance of partition of India by Congress. He had the view that the acceptance of partition of India is a blatant surrender of nationalism for communalism.
In his later days he became closer to Indian Communist Party and worked for better relationships between India and Sovient Union. Lenin Award for International Peace was given to him. He died on October 9, 1963.
· Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari

In fact he enjoyed an intimate friendship with Gandhi.
He was a medical doctor by profession. He got M.D. and M.S. degrees. He worked in Lock Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital in London. He was a pioneer of surgery in India. Charing Cross Hospital has an Ansari Ward to honour his work. He died in 1936.

He defeated a Muslim League candidate in the elections. He worked as Minister of Railway and Transport in the interim Government of India. He worked as an ambassador to USA and minister to Switzerland, Austria and Vatican. He also worked as the Governor of Orissa.
He was much more “enlightened” than today’s self-righteous and self-claimed champions of enlightenment. In 1928 he married a Hindu girl, and faced the outrage of people. He died in 1953.
· Dr. Zakir Hussain
He was the president of India from May 1967 until his death in May 1969. He also worked as Governor of Bihar and Vice President of India.
He was among those who founded national Muslim University: Jamia Millia Islamia. He got his degree of doctorate in economics from the University of Berlin. He got the highest Indian National honour, Bharat Ratna in 1963. He died in 1969 while he was the President of India.

· Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
He was born in 1890. He was a great patriot, a great Pushtun leader and a brave freedom fighter. He was famous for his non-violent political doctrine. To achieve Gandhi’s goal of independent India, Ghaffar Khan founded “Khudai Khidmatgar” movement. He once stated his methodology of political struggle in these words, “I am going to give you such a weapon that the police and the army will not be able to stand against it. It is the weapon of the Prophet, but you are not aware of it. That weapon is patience and righteousness. No power on earth can stand against it.”.
He strongly opposed the partition of India. But in 1948 took oath of allegiance with Pakistan. The government of Pakistan kept him in house arrest without any charge from 1948 to 1954. when he came out, on the floor of constituent assembly he stated, “I had to go to prison many a time in the days of the Britishers. Although we were at loggerheads with them, yet their treatment was to some extent tolerant and polite. But the treatment which was meted out to me in this Islamic state of ours was such that I would not even like to mention it to you.”
He was awarded by the highest Indian National honour, Bharat Ratna in 1987. he died in 1988.
· Khan Wali Khan
He was born in 1917. He was the son of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan. He was a prominent Pashtun leader and a confidante of Gandhi. He served as the provincial joint Secretary of Congress. Like his father he was a staunch opponent of Pakistan Movement. After the creation of Pakistan he struggled for Pashtun autonomy within Pakistan. He was imprisoned without charge from 1948 to 1953.
During the era of Gen. Yahya Khan, he tried much to keep Pakistan unite, but failed. He was against the military operation in East Pakistan. In 1973, Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s notorious FSF attacked a public meeting in Rawalpindi and killed many Pakhtun followers of Wali Khan.
In 1986, he published a book Facts are Sacred. In this book he explained why he and his father opposed Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Pakistan Movement. The book contains declassified British Imperial documents during the time of Pakistan Movement.
After his defeat in 1990 elections, he announced his retirement from politics. He died in 2006.

Strange Fatwa of Two Scholars

The Khateeb of Lal Mosque Maulana Abdul Aziz, confessed that some parts of Jamia Hafsa are built on encroached land. This confession was done in “Capital Talk”, a Geo News’ current affairs talk show on May 24, 2007. Maulana Abdul Aziz also issued a fatwa in this talk show that it is all right in Shariah if an individual decides to occupy a public land illegally, provided that the individual has failed to get this land by legal means and this land is to be used for the benefit of society, e.g. for establishing a seminary. Dr. Khalid Alvi, another participant of the show seconded the fatwa. Dr. Alvi also commented that the illegal occupation of National Book Foundation’s property by the administrators of Jamia Hafsa should not be seen in religious perspective? I wonder what are other crimes which, in the view of Dr. Alvi, should not be seen in religious perspective? Do they also include theft, robbery, murder, rape, gang rape and terrorism?

Today when Ummah has reached at such a level of decadence, it is not astonishing that Iraq and Afghanistan exist as bleeding wounds in Ummah. What America is doing with us today, was done by the super powers of that time with Israelites. At the time of revelation of Quran, God had punished Israelites two times. About the first punishment, God says, “When the first of the warnings came to pass, We sent against you (O! Israelites) Our servants given to terrible warfare: They entered the very inmost parts of your homes; and it was a warning (completely) fulfilled.” (17:5). About the second punishment, God says, “… So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies O! Israelits) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power.” (17:7). God tells us in Quran that Israelites were punished due to their mischievous behavior. God states his Law in Quran about Israelites as: “It may be that your Lord may (yet) show Mercy unto you, but if you reverted (to your sins), We shall revert (to Our punishments)…” (17:8).This Law holds good for Ishmaelites (the original Arabs) and perhaps for their companions in faith (all other Muslims), too.

I can only pray that may God show Right Path to our religious scholars and us.

A Future Timeline of Pakistan

It is a predicted future timeline of some of the events, which will take place in Pakistan:

Year

Event

  • Arguments Presented by the Rulers/Those Responsible for the Event
  • Their Response to the Critics

2022

Ban on liquor is lifted. Bars are opened.

· Pakistan is not an Islamic country. It is a secular country. Vision of Quid-e-Azam was not to impose Shariah in Pakistan.

· If some one dislikes liquor, he should not drink it.

2024

Miss Universe competition is being held.

· This competition is exactly in the spirit of Islam, as in one Hadith, it is said, “God is beautiful and loves beauty”.

· If Mullahs are against this event, they should not watch it and should close their eyes.

· Allama Iqbal was in favor of such competitions, that is why in one of his poems he said, “Wajood-e-zan say hay tasweer-e-kaa’aynaat main rang”.

2030

Pre-marital and extra-marital sex is legalized.

· Mullahs are doing wrong interpretation of Islam. They want Talibanization of Pakistan.

· People opposing this step of government are hypocrites.

· Extremists are the greatest threat for Pakistan.

· Pakistanis have rejected Maududi’s interpretation of Islam.

2037

New laws regarding marriage are passed, similar to those that already exist in the West, rendering marriage extremely difficult and as a consequence promoting living together.

· Today, Pakistani women are really emancipated.

· Mullahs are unaware of the real teachings of Islam. They are misguiding the masses.

2043

Prostitution and brothels are legalized.

· Ban on prostitution is the major hurdle in the way of growth of our tourism industry.

· Many poor people will get employment, which is exactly in the spirit of Islam.

· People opposing this step are the same who opposed Pakistan Movement. Now they are opposing our efforts for the progress and development of Pakistan.

· Mullahs are denying right to choose.

2048

Some theatres are presenting plays in favor of homosexual relationships.

· We are always in conflict with dogmatists, who thrive at the wrapped notions of religion and culture. Through theatre, we challenge the long-held stereotypes. That’s our only chance at the freedom of thought and expression.

2056

A big international sports event is being hosted by Pakistan. A flood of prostitutes is being poured in.

· Sports are positive and constructive activity. Only fanatics can criticize them.

· A lot of foreign exchange is coming to Pakistan. Mullahs do not want Pakistan to be financially strong.

2062

A bill is passed declaring homosexual relationships legal.

· Those who are opposing it want Pakistan to remain in Dark Ages.

· Mullahs opposed Pakistan Movement. Every thing that they oppose is good and must-do.

2069

Homosexual marriages are legalized.

· People opposing it are hypocrites.

· Can Mullah show a single verse in Quran explicitly prohibiting homosexual marriage?

· Extremists are unaware of the true teachings of Islam.

2100

Most of the people are living together, without marriage.

· We have achieved the true goal of creating Pakistan.

The years of occurrence and the sequence of events of the above timeline may change. But I feel sorry to say that we are going in the direction indicated in the above timeline. It is unfortunate that something we dislike is going to happen. It will happen if the concern of a common man about Islam remained at the same level, at which it is today. According to my observation, first priority of a common man is to earn more and more money and to enhance his social status. We are not ready to give merely 1% of the time that we give to earn money to understand Quran and religion. It is a must to be very sensitive about our religion. West is conspiring against our religion. We must cultivate and enhance the love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in our children and ourselves, if we want to meet the challenge of the West.

Mothers of the Faithful Believers

Do you remember the names of your spiritual mothers: the wives of our Last Prophet (PBUH)? I don’t. And I know that most of the Muslims do not. In fact these are the women whom we love and respect many times more than our real mothers. I feel it is imperative for our love for the Last Prophet (PBUH) that we must remember the names of his spouses. Here is the list of the Mothers of the Faithfuls, with their very brief introduction. I hope it will help you and me to remember the names of these pious ladies.

1. Khadija bint Khuwaylid (RA)

She was the first wife of the Last Prophet (PBUH). Her companionship with the Last Prophet (PBUH) remained 25 years, until her death. The Last Prophet (PBUH) did not marry any other woman during her life. She bore two sons and four daughters of the Prophet (PBUH). The sons died in their childhood. The daughters are:

o Hazrat Zeinab (RA);

o Hazrat Ruqayya (RA);

o Hazrat Umm-e-Kulsoom (RA); and

o Hazrat Fatima (RA)

2. Sawda bint Zam’a (RA)

She was the second wife of the Prophet (PBUH). He married her when he was about fifty. Hazrat Sawda was approximately of the same age as the Prophet (PBUH).

3. Ayesha bint Abu Bakr (RA)

She was the daughter of the first Caliph, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA). The Prophet married her when she was sixteen. I’ll quote two ahadith to indicate the opinion of the Prophet about her:

Amro bin Al-Aas (RA) stated that the Holy Prophet appointed him the commander in Ghazwa-e-Zaat al-Salaasil. When he returned after triumph, he asked him (the Holy Prophet (PBUH)) that who was dearest to him among the people. He answered that Ayesha (was dearest to me). Amro bin Al-Aas explained that his question was about the men. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) answered that Ayesha’s father (was dearest to me). (Tirmazi)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: Among the men, there happened to be many complete (in religion: kaamil), but among women none was complete (in religion) except Maryam bint Imran and Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh. And the superiority of Ayesha upon other women is like that of sareed upon other meals. (Bukhari, Muslim, Nisai)

4. Hafsa bint Umer (RA)

She was the daughter of the second Caliph, Hazrat Umer (RA). She was the custodian of the mushaf, in which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to arrange Quran.

5. Zeinab bint Khuzeima (RA)

She was the widow of the Prophet’s cousin, who was martyred in Ghazwa-e-Uhd.

6. Umm-e-Salma bint Abi Umayya (RA)

Her name was Hind, and Umm-e-Salma was her Kunyat. She was also the widow of the Prophet’s cousin, who was martyred in Ghazwa-e-Uhd. She was a very wise and intelligent woman.

7. Zeinab bint Jahsh (RA)

She was Holy Prophet’s cousin. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) first married her to his adopted son Hazrat Zeid (RA). The relationship did not prove to be successful. He divorced her. God ordered the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to marry her, to reform the tradition of considering wife of adopted son to be Haraam for marriage.

8. Umm-e-Habiba bint Abu Sufyan (RA)

Her name was Ramla and Umm-e-Habiba was her Kuniyat. She was the daughter of Hazrat Abu Sufyan (RA), who was the Chief of Qureish. She was the sister of Amir-ul-Mu’mineen Hazrat Mu’aawia (RA). She was married to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) when she was in Abbysinia, after Hijrat.

9. Juweiria bint al-Haris (RA)

She was the daughter of the chief of Banu Mustaliq clan.

10.Safiyya bint Hayayy (RA)

She was an Israelite. She belonged to a Jewish clan of Arabia: Banu Nuzeir. She was from the progeny of Hazrat Haroon (PBUH). Before her marriage with the Holy Prophet (PBUH), she herself was a Jewess.

11.Meimuna bint al-Haris (RA)

It is said about her that she is the only woman who dedicated her soul to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) according to the directives of Surah Ahzaab, and he opted to wed her.

12.Maria Qibtia (RA)

She was not the wife of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), rather she was his slave girl. The King of Egypt presented her to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a gift. She embraced Islam in her way to Medina from Egypt. She bore a son of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Ibraheem, who died at the age of one and a half year. God Himself permitted slave girls in that environment and society due to some valid problems and needs. God allowed such a relationship with a slave girl for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Surah Ahzaab:

O Prophet! We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have paid their dowers; and those whom your right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom God has assigned to you; and daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts, who migrated with you; and any believing woman who dedicates her soul to the Prophet if the Prophet wishes to wed her;---this only for you, and not for the Believers (at large); We know what We have appointed for them as to their wives and the captives whom their right hands possess;---in order that there should be no difficulty for you. And God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. You may defer (the turn of) any of them that you please, and you may receive any you please: and there is no blame on you if you invite one whose (turn) you had set aside. This were near to the cooling of their eyes, the prevention of their grief, and their satisfaction---that of all of them---with that which you have to give them: and God knows (all) that is in your hearts: and God is All-Knowing, Most Forbearing. It is not lawful for you (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attracts you, except any your right hand should possess (as handmaidens): and God does watch over all things. Enlightenment

Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that took place in Europe and American colonies in 18th centuries before French Revolution. This period is called the age of Enlightenment. The most significant writers who promoted the movement include Thomas Paine, Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and David Hume.
The movement advocated that it is the observation of nature, followed by proper reasoning, and not authoritative sources, like Aristotle and Bible that are true basis of knowledge. The supporters of the movement insisted that God did not rule arbitrarily; but through natural laws that He enacted on earth. The thinkers did not rejected religion altogether. They introduced such ideas that make the religion practically ineffective. For example they opted the concept of Deism. Deism accepts existence of God and Hereafter, but rejects authority of religion to give details of theology. They insisted that salvation in the Hereafter is not important, and should not be the main focus of human activities in this world. Our main emphasis must be on improving our worldly life. Church was attacked because it had a lot of political power and was suppressing free exercise of reason. This movement played an important part in the decline of Church and growth of modern secularism.
It was explored that what is the true nature of relationship between citizens and state. The idea that a contract exists between state and citizens grew. This idea influenced democracy and constitutional government.
It is clear that the philosophy of Enlightenment can neither be rejected nor can be accepted in totality. Emphasis on reasoning, efforts to curb the powers of those institutions that suppress individuals (these institutions could be either Church of 18th century or authoritative institutes of third world countries which always tend to gather political powers and cause hindrances in they way of democracy and empowerment of masses) and emphasis on the improvement of human beings in this world are the objectives that must be admired.
Ignorance of Hereafter, denying the authority of Wahi and advocacy of secularism are the goals that can never be supported by Muslims. Advocating Enlightenment in totality is equivalent to revolt against God.
It is a coincidence that in Europe, in the Age of Enlightenment, there were monarchs who were using the term Enlightenment just for propaganda purposes. They were far more despotic than enlightened. Similarly some dictators of third world countries in 21st century are using this term for mere propaganda purposes. As it is obvious that the phrase Enlightened Dictator is a contradiction in terms, because an enlightened person cannot be a dictator and a dictator cannot be an enlightened person.

Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa

Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa of Islamabad have illegally occupied over one acre of the Capital Development Authority. Government razed these buildings. Daily Express, Lahore reported on Feb 11, 2007 that Naa’ib Muhtimam of the seminary, asked in a press conference that if illegally constructed plazas are legalized, then why Jamia Hafsa could not be? On this demand of this “Maulana” what could be said, except: Inna lillaahi wa inna i’layhi raaji’oon.
Could it be thought that those who are expected to be the teachers of morality, can descend to such a shameful position? Those who should be the models of taqwa could be such characterless. Those who should be the torchbearers of wisdom and knowledge could be so obscure? Those who are vicegerents of Prophets (PBUT) could be so irreverent? Those who should be the protectors of masses against Qabza Mafias, have turned into Qabza Mafias themselves?
We have a wonderful tradition of Ulema in our history: from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umer (God be pleased with him), Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (God be pleased with him), Imam Malik (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Imam Abu Hanifa (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Imam Shaafi’ee (May the Blessings of God be upon him) and Imam Hambal (May the Blessings of God be upon him) to Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Allama Shibli (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (May the Blessings of God be upon him), Maulan Abul A’laa Maududi (May the Grace of God be upon him), Maulan Amin Ahsan Islahi (May the Grace of God be upon him) and many others. No doubt, they were all matchless people. But unfortunately, these days most of our Ulema are like the “Maulana” mentioned above.
In Surah Bani Israa’eel, God says:
“And we gave (clear) warning to the Children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief with mighty arrogance (and twice would they be punished)! When the first of the warnings came to pass, We sent against you Our servants given to terrible warfare: They entered the very inmost parts of your homes; and it was a warning (completely) fulfilled. Then did We grant you the Return as against them: We gave your increase in resources and sons, and made you the more numerous in man-power. If ye did well, ye did well for yourselves; if ye did evil, (ye did it) against yourselves. So when the second of the warnings came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it before, all that fell into their power. It may be that your Lord may (yet) show Mercy unto you; but if ye revert (to your sins), We shall revert (to Our punishments): And We have made Hell a prison for those who reject (all Faith). (Verses 4-8).
God clearly indicates why Non-Muslims were allowed to massacre Muslims of those times: They spread a lot of mischief. Why God had allowed our enemies to massacre us in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon? We are mischievous people. We do not have any fear of God. Our Ulema are similar to Naa’ib Muhtimam of Jamia Hafsa. These “Maulanas” are educating us. These are teaching us religion. We are learning morality from such people. So if our Ulema are like that, what should we expect from our masses? Then why should we not face punishment of God in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon?
People see the salvation from this punishment in Jihad. But I see it in reverting to Islam and its higher morality.

Jihaad and the Precondition of the State Authority

A Brief History of the Miseries of Palestinians

Laa’o to qatl naama maira, main bhi daikh loon Kis kis ki mohr hay sar-e-mahzar lagi hui

* In Nov 1917, Foreign Minister of Britain promised to the head of Zionist movement to form a national fatherland for Jews in Palestine, in his secret letter. It was a reward for Jews for their financial and technological support to Britain in World War I.
* Palestine was a province of Turkish Empire (Khilafat-e-Usmania). Hijaz was another province of Turkish Empire. Its Governor was “Sharif Hussein of Makkah”. Britain offered Sharif Hussein that if he revolted against Turk Caliph, he will be helped and will be made an autonomous ruler of all Arab region “except some Western districts of Syria” i.e. Israel. Sharif of Makkah accepted the offer and revolted against the Caliph of Muslims.
* When British army defeated Turks in Palestine and entered Jerusalem as victorious forces, Palestinian Muslims gave them a warm welcome coming out of the city. At that time British Foreign Minister’s promise to the head of Zionist movement was not anymore secret and was internationally revealed.
* Jews started pouring into Palestine. The Palestinian landlords, living in Syria and Lebanon helped these Jews by selling their Palestinian lands to these Jews, at very low rates.
* When population of Jews in Palestine reached alarming limits, Palestinians revolted against Britain, but as they were divided, they were defeated.
During World War II, Hitler massacred about six hundred thousand Jews in Germany, the remaining fled to Palestine.
* When Britain predicted that a Jewish nation state could be formed, it handed over all the Palestinian territory to UN. In Nov 1947,UN divided Palestine through a resolution into two autonomous parts. 56% area for Israel and 44% for Palestine. Israel accepted the resolution, but Arabs and Palestinians rejected. (From that day in every next peace plan, map of Palestine is continuously reduced. Now PLO after being frustrated in all its efforts to occupy Palestine by power, contended itself to Gaza strip and Western Bank strip only. And this autonomy is interior only.)
* King Hussein of Jordan was against the state of Palestine. (State of Palestine was a threat to his Kingdom, as historically Jordan is a part of Palestine. Palestinians have their equal right on Jordan as they have on Israel). So King Hussein had secret talks with Israel to prevent the formation of Palestine and did a secret accord with Israel to let it occupy some regions.
I* n May 1948, Israel announced the independence. Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq attacked Israel. They were defeated. Israel occupied more regions.
In this war Egypt occupied Gaza strip and Jordan occupied Western Bank region. They could form Palestinian state in these areas, but they did not give these regions back to Palestinians, rather kept them with themselves.
* Jamal Abdul Nasir of Egypt used to give Maula Jatt style threats to Israel, and claimed a lot of time to throw Israel into Mediterranean Sea. In May and June 1967 he started saying that he can attack Israel any moment. Instead of it, Israel attacked Egypt, Syria and Jordan silently, in June 5, 1967.Within a day Israel destroyed all aeroplanes and air bases of these countries. In six days Israel took back Gaza strip and 60,000 square kilometre area of Sinai. This area is three times the area of Israel. President Nasir admitted that from Suez Canal to Cairo, there existed not a single soldier of Egypt, and if Israeli forces wanted, they can conquer Cairo easily. Israel also occupied Eastern Jerusalem from Jordan and Golan Heights from Syria.
* In Oct 1973 Egypt and Syria again attacked Israel. Israel occupied more territories of Syria.
In 1978 Egypt signed a treaty with Israel in Camp David. It got back Egypt’s territories from Israel. But let Israel keep Gaza Strip.
