On the night between 13th and 14th August, this year (2005), during the celebrations of Independence Day, some of the performances of the artists were clearly against these teachings of Quran:• Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze (while meeting with ladies)…• …and guard their modesty…• And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze…• …and guard their modesty…• …that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof…• …that they should draw their veils over their bosoms…• …and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers,...(Surah Noor: 30,31)These celebrations were telecasted on PTV, and President of Pakistan, Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf was one of the guests. In the end Gen. Musharraf issued this Fatwa:There was nothing against religion in these performances. The people who think that there is something against religion in these performances, a curtain is there before their minds. They should remove this curtain. If they don’t, okay, they should keep sitting at their places; while the nation will continue to progress.If the President declares that these performances were not against religion, his religious knowledge is very poor.
