A Brief History of Bait Ullah

When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was 35, floods damaged the building of Bait Ullah. Quresh decided to rebuild the building. (And to) raise the plinth, in order to protect it from floods. Older building was without roof and the walls were not that high, too. Now it was decided to raise the (building of) Bait Ullah and build its roof…In the building constructed by Abraham (PBUH), there were two corners in the Southern wall of Ka’ba and the Northern wall was of semicircular shape. The funds that Quresh had were not enough for the complete construction. So the Northern wall was left (incomplete) after raising the foundation. Remaining square part was provided with the roof, and given the shape of a hall. Its door was raised up to the plinth. The semicircular part which was left (un-built) is open till today. It is called Hateem. Pilgrims of Bait Ullah, even today, offers nawafil in this part and experience the fulfilment of saying prayer inside Ka’ba. (Translated from “Hayaat-e-Rasool-e-Ummi” by Khalid Mas’ud).
