Some Facts About 1965 War

Hero of 1965 war, Air Marshal (retired) Nur Khan, while talking to the special correspondent of the daily “Dawn” last year, told some hidden the facts of the war:
* The people heading the Pakistan army misled the nation with a big lie that India provoked the war, and we were the victims of Indian aggression. In fact Pakistan provoked the war by sending 800,000 infiltrators into the occupied Kashmir. (A plan called Operation Gibraltar).
* The people leading the Pakistan army had wrong assessment about Indian retaliation. They believed that India would not react with a full-scale war against Pakistan.
* Even the then Lahore garrison commander had not been taken into confidence.
* They had planned the ‘Operation Gibraltar’ for self-glory rather than in the national interest. It was a wrong war.
* On the second day of the war, Gen. Musa Khan, the then Commander-in-Chief told President Ayub Khan that the army had run out even of ammunition.
* President Ayub should have held his senior generals accountable for the debacle and should have himself resigned.
* The 1965 war was based on a big lie and was presented to the nation as a great victory.
